The trip was wonderful in spite of the rain. Janes Island State Park is an area where there is protected marshland, and open water within a short distance of the campground. There were 2 paddles on Saturday, we did a longer 13 mile paddle around Janes Island while another group did a shorter paddle through the marsh. We were lucky, there were storms in the area, but the lightning was distant and moving away. Even though we kept a close eye on the weather radar and lightning app. Sunday it rained, and rained some more. We paddled anyway. We did find some shelter in the marsh. There is something about paddling in the rain, beautiful and very peaceful. |
